State Key Laboratory of Conservation and Utilisation of Subtropical Agricultural Biological Resources(SKLCUSA)

 

About SKLCUSA:History: The State Key Laboratory of Conservation and Utilisation of Subtropical Agricultural Biological Resources is the first discipline-based State Key Laboratory in Guangxi built on the basis of universities. On the basis of "Guangxi State Key Laboratory for the Protection and Utilisation of Subtropical Biological Resources", the laboratory integrates the advantageous strengths of Guangxi University and South China Agricultural University, and set up a project in March 2011, passed the acceptance of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in July 2014, and was awarded "good" grade in the assessment of the State Key Laboratory in 2017, and was recognised as a model international scientific and technological cooperation by MOST in the same year. In 2017, it was awarded "Good" in the assessment of national key experiments, and in the same year, it was recognised by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a model international science and technology cooperation base.

 

Laboratory Positioning: The laboratory focuses on scientific and technological problems such as insufficient innovative use of germplasm resources of important subtropical speciality crops sugarcane, southern high-quality rice, lychee and mango, unclear genetic and molecular bases of yield, quality, resistance, and desirability, low efficiency of breeding, and scarcity of major breakthrough varieties, etc., to carry out the basic theories of sugarcane and southern high-quality rice, etc., and the cutting-edge core technology of original innovation of biological breeding, to create synergistic improvement of multi-trait To create excellent germplasm with synergistic improvement of multiple traits, to cultivate major breakthrough new varieties, and to guarantee the security of supply of sugar, grain and fruit products in China.

Objectives: To become an internationally leading subtropical agricultural science and technology innovation highland and a gathering base for high-end talents, to effectively support the development of subtropical speciality agriculture and the comprehensive revitalisation of the countryside, to guarantee the security of China's sugar and grain supply, to improve people's quality of life, to maintain the economic and social stability of South China's border areas, and to enhance the services for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, the construction of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the "Belt and Road" programme. The capacity to serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the construction of China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership and the "Belt and Road" initiative will be enhanced.
