The 22nd Life Science Junwu Forum was successfully held

On July 13, the College of Life Science and Technology of Guangxi University successfully held the 22nd "Life Science Junwu Seminar" in the multi-functional conference Room 107 of the state key laboratory. Professor Tang Jihua, vice President of Henan Agricultural University, and Professor Gong Zhizhong, vice President of Hebei University, were invited to give academic reports.

Professor Tang Jihua made an academic report entitled "Improving Maize Breeding Efficiency by Basic Research". The presentation focuses on the current situation and breeding target of maize production in China , the discovery of key genes of maize important traits and the basic research to promote the improvement of breeding efficiency. Professor Tang Jihua deeply analyzed the direction and advantages of future maize variety breeding, and encouraged the students to closely combine classroom learning, scientific research and social practice to contribute to rural revitalization.

Professor Gong Zhizhong gave an academic report entitled "Comprehensive Enhancement Technology of Major crop varieties - Research and Development and production application of plant immune priming proteins Weidai and Weipu Green". VDAL protein was isolated from Dalichocladium cotton and VIP protein interacting with VDAL was obtained from cotton. These two types of proteins can be mixed with all pesticides, fertilizers, etc. Through low concentration treatment of crop seeds or spraying leaves, it has outstanding effects on resistance to low temperature, drought and disease resistance, and can steadily improve crop yield and the quality of melons and fruits, ensuring increased production in good years and stable yield in bad years. On the basis of existing management, it is expected to upgrade all current major food varieties (increase production by more than 5%). Professor Gong Zhizhong is confident about the application prospect of plant immune priming protein, which is expected to contribute to the new round of national grain production capacity improvement and the safe production of melons, fruits and vegetables.

The faculty of our college actively communicates with Professor Tang Jihua and Professor Gong Zhizhong during and after the seminar, laying a good foundation for future cooperation.
